Director of Care
Organization Background:
Edgewater
Gardens is a 64-bed Long-term care home located in Dunnville, a rural community
within Haldimand County. Our vision is to provide the best rural health care.
“Edgewater” is closely aligned with the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, located
on the grounds next to our home.
You are a highly motivated individual whose leadership characteristics and

Position Summary:
- This is
a .6 position reporting to the Administrator
- Responsible
for the administration, organization and management of resident care
-
Ensures
that nursing staff operate within the guidelines of the applicable legislation
as determined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, Occupational Health and
Safety and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor of
Science in Nursing. Current registration with the College of Nurses of
Ontario as a Registered Nurse
-
Minimum 3-5
years’ management experience, preferably in Long-term care
-
Superior
interpersonal, creative, problem-solving, conflict resolution, risk-management
skills with demonstrated experience in employee engagement
-
Knowledge
and implementation of evidenced-based best practices. Knowledge of the
Standards of the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario, Labour Relations, WSIB and
Employment Standards Act
-
Extensive
knowledge of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Regulations
-
Experience
in implementing and administering quality assurance programs in a health care
setting
-
Demonstrated experience with financial, accounting and budgetary functions
-
Proficiency
in various software applications, including Point Click Care, Microsoft Office
and accounting software programs
-
Experience
with Accreditation in Long-term Care an asset
Major Responsibilities:
·
Plan, assess,
organize, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing services and resident care
·
Responsible
to monitor compliance through audits of resident care, assessments, resident
charts, care plans, MARS, TARS and documentation.
·
Plan and
participate in departmental and interdisciplinary programs, external
professional committees and meetings as required, i.e., Health Advisory
Committee, OANHSS, LHIN meetings
·
Participate
in Continuous Quality Improvement program
·
Evaluating
the quality of care provided by the nursing staff in conjunction with the
inter-professional team members at all levels, with particular attention to
resident outcomes
·
Promote “best
practices” within the provision of Long-term care programs and services
·
Identify,
support and promote nursing department staff development and continuing
education
·
Ensure
positive union-management relations by assisting in contract negotiations
·
Functions as
a member of the Leadership Team.
·
Work with
hospital staff and other partners in the community to help achieve an integrated
health system wherever possible.
